NEW PRODUCTION ENO begins the 2007/08 Sky Arts Season with an exhilarating, original staging of Carmen, one of the most beloved operas of all time. Film director Sally Potter – who won international acclaim for her Oscar nominated adaptation of Orlando in 1992 – makes her operatic debut, collaborating with designer Es Devlin and choreographer Pablo Veron to present a modern-day vision of this timeless drama. Drawing on the emotional essence of Bizet’s masterpiece, this new realisation marries vivid storytelling with dynamic dance elements. ENO Music Director Edward Gardner is joined by an international cast, which features British mezzo-soprano Alice Coote in her role debut, Australian tenor Julian Gavin and American soprano Katie Van Kooten in her ENO debut. Supported by Lord and Lady Laidlaw 15 performances. Running time: 2 HRS & 55 MINS Sign-language interpreted performance: Nov 12
