From £19.00*

NEW PRODUCTION ENO reaffirms its status as a world-leading Britten exponent with the UK premiere of David McVicar’s The Turn of the Screw, a beautiful production that ‘transfixed audiences’ (The St Petersburg Times) when first staged at the Mariinsky (Kirov) Theatre in 2006. Considered the most dramatically arresting of all his stage works, Britten’s chamber opera is inspired by Henry James’s novella of the same name, a spinetingling ghost story in which forces of good and evil battle for a child’s soul. With a brooding filmic quality, this new production sees Rebecca Evans making her debut as the Governess, Britten’s most mesmerising female creation, and Ann Murray singing Mrs Grose. Garry Walker, Permanent Guest Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducts Britten’s gripping score in his ENO debut. A production of the Mariinsky Theatre, Russia. Original production sponsored (2006) by the Mariinsky Theatre Trust (UK) Supported by the English Opera Group 6 performances. Running time: 2 HRS & 10 MINS Sign-language interpreted performance: Dec 3
